100 Years of Women in Policing - March
It was 100 years ago, this year, the first two women joined the NSW Police Force, marking a place in Australian history. Women have since made a significant contribution to the Force, to the safety of the community, while at the same time helping to shape the state of NSW.
Today the baton relay came to an end, with an historic run over the Harbour Bridge.
Six runners, including a former Olympian and current detective, carried the custom-made baton via the Cahill Expressway, to Hyde Park Barracks.
From this location, 700 female police employees, past and present, were led by NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, and Deputy Commissioners, Catherine Burn, Nick Kaldas and David Hudson, down Macquarie Street.
Finishing the parade by standing in formation at the Opera House forecourt, Commissioner Andrew Sciopione addressed the officers, the public, and NSW dignitaries including former Governor of NSW, Dame Marie Bashir.
Members of the public joined the marchers on Macquarie Street, lining up alongside them and cheering them on.
